The liberal arts experience with the School of Humanities extends beyond the classroom. Rising junior and Moody Research fellow Mariam shares just how expansive humanities at Rice is, stretching across not only buildings and disciplines but also across nations and cultures.

Not only is Romanticism a historical period, it is also an idea that has shaped our contemporary world. In the course Romanticism: Ruins, Race, Revolution taught by the Department of English in the School of Humanities, the three core concepts of Romanticism are examined through the study of texts and visual art. By looking at novels, poems, philosophy, history, paintings and film from the eighteenth century through present day, students discover how ruins, race and revolutions have been central to the formation of key concepts such as love, longing, beauty, justice and equality in our lives.
