EXPLORE LIFE AT RICE

What if you could get a first-hand
look at life at Rice

  • Three male Rice students smile and pose for a picture in the stands of a Houston Rockets game, with the basketball court behind them.
Rice students were able to make it out for a Rice night hosted by the Houston Rockets, our professional basketball team!
  • Two female Rice students pose for a picture from the Y2K party, and the picture is edited to look like a polaroid.
This social event is a Rice favorite since students get to dress up and blast music from the early 2000's.
  • Two male Rice students smile for the camera, and the picture is edited to look like a polaroid.
Each year, Rice students like to get down like it's the beginning of the millennium once more for a Y2K-themed party!
  • Three students hold out sticks with marshmallows on them over a grill to make s'mores.
At the North Colleges Block Party, all of the students at the North Colleges (Brown, Jones, Martel, McMurtry, ) were invited to socialize and even toast marshmallows!
  • A large group of students gather around an outdoor patio at nighttime mixing and mingling with a string of lights overhead.
While many residential colleges hold individual events, sometimes they come together for larger occasions, such as the North Colleges Block Party.
  • A female student poses in front of a booth filled with framed art showcasing Black excellence and the Black experience.
Rice groups like the Center for Civic Leadership often host excursions like this into Houston so that students have a chance to experience all that Houston has to offer.
  • A female Rice student smiles while sitting at a table with food.
Students who went on this excursion to BLCK Market Houston got to enjoy the shopping, performances, and, of course, food.
  • A female Rice student poses in a selfie with one of the vendors at BLCK Market Houston.
The Center for Civic Leadership took some Rice students on a field trip to BLCK Market Houston, where students were able connect with Black artists and entrepreneurs.
  • Four students stand with large Greek letters that represent Martel - Sigma Pi Mu.
Happy Birthday Martel! Students from Martel College celebrated their founding 21 years ago on their signature sundeck (photo by Martel freshman Audrey P.).
  • A male Rice student holds a stick with two marshmallows over a small flame.
Most students would agree the best part of ROPE's demonstration was the s'mores (photo by Jeff Fitlow).
  • A man holding a piece of a tent gestures while giving a talk on camping, with a student standing off to the side listening.
Students were invited to check out a camping demonstration by Rice Outdoor Programs and Education (ROPE), which provides students the opportunity to explore the outdoors through trips, classes and equipment rentals (photo by Jeff Fitlow).
  • A picture taken from farther back of a group of students standing in front of a table with food for a Chinese New Year celebration.
Events like Chinese New Year are a great way for students to connect and learn more about each other (and pick up some delicious food!), many different colleges and orgs across campus celebrated over the weekend.
