EXPLORE LIFE AT RICE

What if you could get a first-hand
look at life at Rice

  • A Rice student smiles for a picture while holding a plate of Filipino food.
Of course, no event is complete without food! This one served lumpia and mamón, classic Filipino food.
  • A woman dressed in traditional Filipino clothing is doing a dance where she lays on the ground and is holding two glass cups in her hands and balancing one glass cup on her head.
For Filipino American History Month, the Department of Transnational Asian Studies, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and Anakbayan Rice invited the Cultural Ambassadors of the Filipino Young Professionals of Houston for a performance of Filipino folk dances.
  • A close up picture of an astronaut figurine.
Did you know? To date, 14 NASA astronauts have graduated from Rice!
  • The picture shows the back of one student taking a picture of another student in front of her that looks like they are wearing a space suit.
Students came out to Rice stadium to celebrate the 60th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's historic "moonshot" speech.
  • Devika and Naman stand in front of a large piece of art that is of a woman in bright pink drawn in the pop art style.
When they aren't hosting events, the Asia Society Texas also features art from members of the Asian diaspora.
  • A woman from the Asia Society wearing a blue piece of traditional Chinese clothing called a hanfu introduces the performances for the festival.
The performances, led by this presenter from the Asia Society Texas, were one of the highlights of the festival.
  • A side profile picture captures Arinze, a Rice student, and other fellow interns in Colombia on an excursion.
Choosing an experience abroad means Rice students can not only provide their skills to nonprofits and gain real-world skills, but also make memories with lifelong friends.
  • Mehek, a Rice student, holds out her hand for a giraffe standing next to her to eat out of.
Mehek spent 8 amazing weeks in Nairobi, Kenya, working with The Pangea Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and youth, and had some fun experiences along the way!
  • The picture shows Arinze, a Rice student, sitting on a street in Columbia, looking down at his camera.
Arinze, a Loewnestern Fellow with the Center for Civic Leadership, traveled to Medellín, Colombia to work with a nonprofit, Pygmalion Tech.
  • A group of Baker college boys covered in red body paint for their college color smiles for a group photo while leaning against an old Volkswagen Beetle Car that is decorated with Baker College’s symbol.
Mock Bike gives new students a chance to establish their college spirit, shown here as Bakerites pose in front of their college mascot, and holding up the number one to remind everyone that “Baker comes first," since they were the first residential college on campus.
  • A Rice student with purple body paint for McMurtry College holds both hands up in the air while smiling in the middle of the crowd of new students at an O-Week event.
Students from all the colleges (such as a new McMurtry student here) get pumped for Mock Bike, where they root for their colleges by screaming their college chants at other colleges and repping their college colors with accessories and paint.
  • A large group of students from Wiess Residential College wearing their college colors, goldenrod and black, perform their O-Week Dance in front of the Sallyport of Lovett Hall.
The President's Welcome not only featured food but colleges, such as Wiess College pictured here, got to show off their O-Week Dance!
