The Owl Edge Externship Program at Rice is offered through the Center for Career Development (CCD) and provides undergraduate students with the unique opportunity to explore different careers and industries through short-term, hands-on learning experiences. Navya, Jones ‘27, spent a few days over winter recess shadowing a Rice alumnus at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Bryant, Sid Richardson ‘25, came to Rice knowing that he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Here, he discusses how his experience in EMSP 281, Introduction to Prehospital Medicine, allowed him to see medicine in action while also providing the opportunity to directly impact patients.

One of only two undergraduate students in the Shepherd School of Music’s Musicology Department, Wenshi has a deep passion for music, history and technology. Wenshi’s studies have led her to explore how these fields intersect and bridge the gap between the performing arts and modern technology.

At Rice University, almost half of all of our students study abroad at some point during their time here as undergraduates. There are so many ways that students can study abroad — in fact, there are over 300 different opportunities available through the Office of Study Abroad alone! Milton, a junior studying biosciences health sciences, chose to go abroad recently through a Rice summer course in Tanzania. 

At Rice, our undergraduate students have the freedom to combine interests and create their own academic paths. Zack, a junior from Jones College, is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree while also working two different research positions!
